It’s not caring to share everything – Coronavirus is one thing that we’re definitely keen not to share! But other things are good to share – like toilet rolls – well at least not buying all the toilet rolls in the shop and leaving none for anyone else!
Other things are good to share – chocolate (as long as you have washed your hands thoroughly beforehand!) and good news is good to share. News of a pregnancy, good results from hospital, news of an engagement. At the moment, we don’t hear much good news. The news is full of the Coronavirus. there is a lot of uncertainty. It’s a troubling time in many ways, hard to know what will happen, will events and services go ahead, will the supermarkets have enough food (and toilet rolls!), will the hospitals cope? What about loved ones in nursing homes and other vulnerable people?
The answer to most of those questions is that we don’t know, but we can know the one who does. In the light of all the uncertainty it is great to remind ourselves that God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in the time of trouble (Psalm 46). And that while we don’t know what will happen, we can know the one who is in control and working out everything for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
In this time of uncertainty and panic, we need a rock to stand on, a place of refuge in the storm, a place of rest among the crazy headlines. In the Lord Jesus we have a rock, a refuge, shepherd and a place of rest. We don’t know what will happen tomorrow, but He does and we can trust Him.
Tonight at 8pm our lent course begins in Burrowes Hall, we’ll be thinking about “Sharing is Caring” as we consider how we can share this good news of Jesus, the rock and refuge with those who are struggling with all the uncertainty. All welcome (as long as you have washed your hands!).
