As I write this I am covid positive, I don’t feel great. I have had a high temperature, cough, headache, sore throat and slight tightness in chest. I am thankful that I am doubly vaccinated.
So how is God kind in this? Well, as I write this I am isolating in my sister’s garden (see photo) and the sun is shining, it is warm even though it’s the end of October. By God’s mercy I didn’t develop any symptoms until we arrived here and my sister has a spare room where I can isolate from everyone. And, being a Cavan man and with rising energy costs, I’m grateful that its her ESB!
I’m also grateful that I didn’t visit anyone in the parish while having symptoms so I’m hopeful I’ve not spread the virus.
So far Dorothy and the children are free of any symptoms and have negative tests, though I’d appreciate your ongoing prayers for this. I am staying away from them.
While it would be nice for me to spend time with them and my sister’s family, I’m grateful they can enjoy time together and that God is giving me plenty of time alone with Him to read and pray.
I’m also grateful that Rev Cameron was already lined up to take the service this Sunday and that God willing my isolation will have ended by the following Sunday and so church won’t need to be cancelled.
God’s timing is always just right.
And I’m so thankful that because of Jesus we know that in all things God is working for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28).
We often use this prayer for people who are unwell, and if you would like to pray it for me, I’d be very happy:
Lord Jesus, we remember how when a friend of Yours was sick in the days of Your flesh, word was sent to You — “He whom You love is sick.” We speak now the same message to You, “those we love are sick.” We ask for your blessing upon them. We pray that their precious lives may be spared and restored again to health. Give wisdom to the doctors and bless the medicines and the means.
While our dear ones suffer may they be sustained by Your grace, held near Your own heart, and kept in peace. And may they come again from the sick-room with a sweeter trust in You, with more patience and trust, ready for better service. We ask in Jesus’ precious name. Amen.
