Lord God, we are so shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of Ashling Murphy. She went out for a run, and she never came home. This should not have happened, she should have been safe, Lord we feel anger at what has happened. Please comfort her heartbroken family, her father Raymond, her mother Kathleen, her brother Cathal, her sister Amy and her boyfriend Ryan. Thank-you that you are near to the broken hearted. Please draw near to this poor family in their shock, grief, anger and despair. God of all comfort, please give them your peace that passes understanding, and lead them to the rock that is higher than them, that they may find a secure place to grieve. May they find hope in the Lord Jesus who is the resurrection and the life.
Please help this family as they look to the future, Lord it must look so bleak for them at the moment, please help them. We thank you that you are a God of justice, and we pray that you will bring those responsible to justice. Please help the Gardaí in their investigation. Please guide the government in their response to this tragedy, as to whether to implement measures to prevent further tragedies. Lord Jesus, you turned the heart of Saul when he set out to harm your people, please would you change the hearts of those who intend to harm others and stop them from causing such devastation.
We also pray for those who feel especially fearful or vulnerable when they hear of these attacks. Please keep them from being paralysed by fear or anxiety and protect them from harm. May they know you as their rock and refuge in these troubling times. Lord Jesus, the prince of peace and light of the world, please give your light and peace at this dark time. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
