Loving Lord we come to you with heavy hearts this week on the loss of another young man in our local area. On this day when they have buried their dear son, Oran, we pray that you would comfort his mother Jacinta and his father Seamus and their partners, Tony and Ann. We also pray for Oran’s siblings, Kiara, Regan and Caolain, his grandparents Elizabeth, Michael and Kitty and his wider family and dear friends.
Lord, you know the pain and the emptiness that they are feeling at the moment, the confusion and the despair. Lord Jesus Christ, you are the light of the world, may you bring light into their darkness, and give them hope in the midst of their despair. Please help them to turn towards you in their grief and not away from you. Please help them in the desperately hard days ahead as they try and rebuild their lives without Oran.
We also pray for others that this has opened up wounds for again, remembering especially the family and friends of Cillian Boyle and of Eden Heaslip.
We pray for all young people to know that they are made in your image and so are precious. May they know they are fearfully and wonderfully made. May they know the love that you have shown to them through giving your only son for them. May the resurrection of our Lord Jesus from the grave reassure them that life is not pointless but is heading somewhere. We cry out to you to prevent further suicides, and for young people to find in you strength, purpose and meaning. In Jesus’ precious name we pray. Amen.
