“The Lord is near to all who call on Him.” (Psalm 145:18)

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him.” This is a wonderful truth and as I read it this morning it got me thinking about the great sermon I heard on Sunday evening. We were looking at the work of the Holy Spirit and considering how He graciously shows us our sin and then enables us to repent and believe.

Sometimes people use this an excuse not to come to God, they say, He hasn’t given me faith. Well this Psalm encourages us to call on the Lord, and assures us He is near. We don’t need to wait, the Bible commands us to call upon God, Jesus commanded “repent and believe”. We need to come to God and ask for His help to do this, and as we approach God like this we can be confident that the Spirit is at work in us.

Jesus promises that whoever comes to Him, He will never cast out (John 6;37). Wonderfully His voice that called the dead Lazarus from his tomb can give life to our dead hearts.
