The joy of going God’s way (1 Chron 14-16; Acts 24)

Yesterday we saw the tragedy of going the way of the world rather than God’s way. It cost Uzzah his life, and David was angry and afraid. How could they bring the ark to Jerusalem?

The answer is according to God’s Word! God had already told them what to do in Numbers 4. When David follows God’s Word, there is much reverence and much rejoicing. You can imagine how careful they were this time. A holy reverence to the things of God is a good thing, and it leads to much joy as God delights in their worship.

In his worship, David comes humbly, he takes off his kingly robes and wears a simple linen garment. This is the way for us to come to God, not proudly, but with a humble heart, recognising He is God and depending on His mercy and grace.

Look around the joy this leads to in 1 Chronicles 16:8-36.

It’s a joy that overflows in praise, wanting others to join you in praising God. It’s a joy that helps you see the folly of idols, why would you want anything other than a right relationship with the real God!

What a difference when worship is done God’s way rather than the world’s way.
