The kindness of God (Obadiah; Jer 40-42; Ps 147; 1 Pet 5)

How kind and gracious our God is! What other God invites His people to cast their anxieties on Him? The gods of religion make demands on their people, place burdens on them, but our God offers to take our burdens of us. Listen to God’s gracious invitation in 1 Peter 5:7 “casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

It’s even better when you see the reason for why we should cast our anxieties on Him. Notice the “because” word. Why should we cast our anxieties on the Lord? Because He cares for you! Isn’t that amazing! That the God who made and sustains the universe by His mighty Word, actually cares for little you and little me! How does He do it?

It’s not that you don’t have any concerns when you’re a Christian, the next verse tells us that we have an adversary. The devil prowls around like a roaring lion. But we can cast all our concerns on the Lord, and know that He will give us the strength to resist the devil. It’s comforting to know that you’re not the only one facing difficulties. Satan may try and tell you that you are, “poor you” he may whisper, “God can’t really love you if he lets you suffer like this, no one else has it as bad as you.”

“Get away Satan”, Peter says, Christians all over the world are facing the same kind of trials for being Christians (v9). It is normal to face trials, we are living in a broken world, and we are living as exiles here, we don’t really belong here! Our home is in the new heaven and new earth with the Lord. It’s going to be hard while you wait, but God invites you to cast those burdens on Him. And the trials won’t last forever. Look at v10 “after you have suffered a little while”. It may feel like forever, but God says, even if it’s a lifetime, it’s a little while compared to eternity! And after the little while, God will “restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.” What a great and kind God we have. If you have any concerns today, why not give them to Him now.
