Dear despairing young person (2)

Thanks for coming back, I’m so glad you’re reading this. I said yesterday that you were precious because you are fearfully and wonderful made. But if that’s true why do things sometimes feel so rubbish? Why is there an emptiness that nothing seems to fill? Why is there a pain that nothing can numb? Why is there a longing that can’t be fulfilled?

Do you feel the world is broken?

I think the short answer why things often feel rubbish is that the world is broken.  You probably don’t need much persuading of that. The question is, why is it broken and can it be fixed? Is there any hope?

The answer to this is both painful and wonderful. The painful truth is that the world is broken because we’ve broken it.  That’s fairly obvious when we look at something like the murder of Ashling Murphy, the migrant crisis, racism and climate change.  The problem is that the world is full of people who say “my life, my rules.”  The question is, whose rules are best? And what if your rules clash with mine? Who decides?

Should we even have rules?  Something in us doesn’t like being told what to do.  But sometimes following rules actually brings life.  Operation Transformation has been a great success in many getting into healthy living, but have you ever wondered why it’s been a success? It was because people obeyed an exercise programme!

What if God’s rules were actually for our good? What if following God actually brought freedom, life and hope? What if all the darkness in the world has come from not following God?
That’s the painful part, I want to keep these letters short, so I’ll leave the wonderful part for the next letter. But I’ll leave you with the words of a song I love:

“do you know that all the dark won’t stop the light from getting through?”

You can listen to the whole song here at the link below.

Please stick with me, and don’t forget to talk, once again here’s some people you can talk to, see more below:
